Yachting in the province of Salerno (Italy). Amalfi

Amalfi is a charming resort town that attracts Italian and foreign tourists. Today this seaside resort is a very popular holiday destination among yachtsmen in the region and in Italy in general.

Stretching from the Punta Campanella Marine Reserve to Salerno, the Amalfi Coast is replete with intricately carved cliffs with picturesque cascades of terraces and houses. You will not see such a landscape anywhere else in the world!

The Amalfi Coast in the province of Salerno is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its beautiful landscapes and important historical heritage.

Attractions

As experienced travelers have noted 2yachts, in Amalfi you can get acquainted with medieval architecture in which the Byzantine style is combined with strict lines of Norman traditions. The central square of the city is Piazza del Duomo, connected to the waterfront by a small street. There is another square on the embankment that sets the tone for the structure of the city - next to it there is a marina. From Piazza Duomo begins the main street - via Lorenzo d'Amalfi, which houses countless restaurants, boutiques and shops. It is worth starting your acquaintance with the sights of the city from the main square.

Cathedral of St. Andrew

Cathedral of St. Andrew (Duomo di Sant'Andrea), located in the heart of the city - the main attraction of Amalfi. The magnificent 11 building was rebuilt several times, resulting in features of the Byzantine, Gothic and Baroque styles. The facade of the building is decorated with images of saints, stripes of marble and open arches with carved lace trim.

From the adjacent Basilica of the Crucifixion (which became the first cathedral of Amalfi), you can get to the crypt of the 13th century, where the relics of St. Andrew are kept. Also on the territory of the cathedral there is a small "Paradise courtyard" (Chistro del Paradiso) of the 13th century, which served as a burial place for noble citizens. The characteristic atmosphere in this courtyard, made in Arabic style, is created by snow-white columns, statues of tombstones and fragments of mosaics in the "cosmatesco" style.

Arsenal of the Amalfi Republic

The gothic building of the old city arsenal is located just a few steps from the city beach. Here, the ships of the merchant fleet of the Amalfi Republic were built, stored goods and carried on trade. In memory of those times, a museum was created in the arsenal building in 2010. Museum expositions are dedicated to the history of the compass, old costumes and money. Also here you can see paintings, banners and other artifacts of past centuries.

Church of St. Pancras

The Church of St. Pancras is located on a hill with a wonderful view of the entire coast. It is not known for certain when it was founded, but the first written mention of this church dates back to the 14th century. The Neo-Byzantine building housed in a palm garden looks very harmonious, attracting attention with its symmetrical facade and bell tower.

Amalfi Paper Museum

The Museum of Paper (Museo della Carta) was founded in 1969 on the basis of a paper mill. A visit to the museum will be interesting for both adults and children - it is very informative, and the guides tell in detail about the old methods of paper production. You can touch old exhibits, and even participate in the process of creating paper. There is a shop from the museum where you can buy souvenirs in the form of notebooks, pens with ink, etc.

Valle delle Ferriere

The Valle delle Ferriere is a great place to visit with a local guide. An interesting natural site located just an hour's walk from Amalfi, there are beautiful waterfalls and streams, thanks to which the valley is always cool.

In the center of the valley is the Riserva Naturale Orientata nature reserve with a unique flora of invaluable scientific importance.

Emerald Grotto

Located in the small village of Conca dei Marini, the Grotta dello Smeraldo cave is partially filled with water, while the water, thanks to the unique natural light, acquires a turquoise-emerald hue. The age of this natural landmark is more than 5 thousand years, and it owes its origin to the displacement of tectonic plates. Interestingly, in a cave about 24 m high, some stalactites have grown together with stalagmites, forming incredible columns up to 10 m high.

Cellars of Maris Cuomo

About 8 km west of Amalfi is Furore, where you will find the Maris Cuomo Winery. The grapes are grown here, and the wines produced are called "extreme" (due to the conditions in which the grapes grow - on the slopes of the mountain, where houses are also scattered over the seashore).

The winery has received many world-class awards and today produces about a dozen varieties of wine with a volume of 50 thousand bottles per year. Here you can participate in a guided tour as well as a tasting tour. The most famous wines of the Marisa Cuomo brand are Bianco Fjorduva and Furore Rosso Riserva.
