Description

Construction

GRP hull and deck with long keel and projected half skeg hung rudder

The hull is grp and has frequently been inspected for osmosis and none has been detected.

A new gelcoat was applied below the rubbing strake in 2006 for aesthetic reasons.

The deck of the cockpit and surround is teak, there is a non-slip rubber matting on the saloon roof and down the sides of the saloon and the remaining deck is coated with International

Paints Interdeck non-slip paint.

Mechanicals

Engine

The current engine, a Ford Mermaid Melody II, was fitted in 1999. It was last serviced in December 2021 and filters and impellor were replaced.

A new starter motor was fitted in March 2022 and there are new starter batteries.

The gearbox was fitted new in 2017.

All the bearings on the propellor shaft were replaced in 2016.

Electrics

i2 volts via 4 batteries replaced 2019 through to 2022

There is a socket for shore power in the cockpit. This feeds to an MCB and on to a twin three pin socket. One of the sockets is used for a battery charger/conditioner which is connected to the engine and service circuits separately. The other socket is used to feed a series of sockets around the boat via a RCB.

There is a 240v inverter for use when there is no shore power. This has limited output and cannot be used for example by the electric kettle.

The main boat system is 12 volts and all of the lights are LEDs.

Water System

Pressured hot and cold water system.

Heating

The boat is heated by a Reflex Danish oil fired boiler located in the galley.

Hot water system is heated via the stove and on a gravity feed basis

This has two gravity fed radiators, one in the rear cabin and one in the rear heads.

The fuel tank for the boiler is in a cupboard in the central cabin and there is an electric pump to feed diesel from the main tank onto this fuel tank.

It is possible to cook on top of the oil stove.

Gas system

The gas locker for the stove is in the lazarette, which contains two Calor Gas cylinders.

There is a solenoid valve to isolate the gas, the switch being adjacent to the stove.

The whole gas system was inspected in 2019 and a Gas Safety Certificate was obtained.

Tankage

Diesel tank 1x 350 litres in Stainless Steel

Water Tank 1x 500 litres in Stainless Steel

Holding Tank 1 x 112 litres in GRP

Mast Rigging and Sails

Alona is a ketch with a roller reefing genoa and conventional main and mizzen sails with lazy jacks.

The  mizzen sail has had little use, having been a spare sail until this season, and the mainsail was cleaned and serviced in November 2021.

While this sail is well used, there is a spare sail in a locker under the bed in the main cabin. The genoa was serviced in November 2021.

There is also a cruising chute.

All of the standing rigging was professionally replaced in August 2017

GRP sailing yacht Colvic Victor 40 ''Alona'', built in 1987 by Colvic Craft England. Design by John Bennett,

The Colvic Victor 40 offers exceptionally generous accommodations in a characteristic heavy displacement hull with good seakeeping performance

Alona is a Colvic Victor 40, the hull of which was purchased in 1989. It was finished fitting out in about 1992, but when we purchased it in 1997 it had not been extensively used. During the last 25 years we have taken it to Venice and back, both passages being through the rivers and canals of France, circumnavigating the coasts of Italy, Croatia, England, Wales and Scotland south of the Great Glen in the process.
